Knock Knock. Who's there?
Have people ever come up to you and knock on your stomach? They have to me and it is very weird. They find it funny that my stomach is as hard as rock. People say I have rock hard abs. That makes me laugh. The best part is when you go up to someone who doesn't know you where the brace and tell them that you have rock hard abs. They won't believe you and so you say punch me in my stomach. When they do it hurts their hand and then you laugh. Best part of wearing the brace.

ReplyDeleteMy mom found your blog and gave it to me because, well, I wear a back brace, too for my scoliosis. I just had my one year check up last week. It's been a long road, and I still have a whole year left to go! It is so awesome finding another girl who shares the same struggles that I go through every single day with the back brace. When I read your blog, it's like I'm reading something that I wrote! I hope we both have perfectly straight spines when this whole thing is finally over.

ReplyDeleteThank you for writing to one of my posts, it makes me feel like I am writing to a person and not just to myself. I know exactly what you are going through. Hey congrats on having one year done! I know that wearing the brace seems like a waste of time but my mom had to wear one as a teenager and she has a really stright spine now so maybe it works. Knowing that there is someone else that is wearing a brace makes me feeel better becasue at my school I am the only one and I sometimes feel like a freak. This is going to make us friends. I am 13 years old and in the 8th grade. I would love to get to know you. And if there is anything specific that you would like me to write about just let me know and I will. Hang in there the second year is a lot less hard than the first was and I am here if you ever need anything.

i am amazed at how open about wearing a brace you (katelyn)are. when u said u just go up to strangers and tell them to feel ur "abs", i was like "man she's brave. only like my closest friends know about it.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't just walk up to people and say that. It is really just the people in my school and grade that don't know about it. I also really only told my closest friends but then they told people abd I have to take it off for gym and volleyball. So more people know and eventually most people in my grade and some people in the other grades. It doesn't relly bother me because this way I am not always explaining it to people and I like to see there reations. To me the brace is a part of me and if I am friends with someone they are going to know about it or they really don't know me. ~Katelyn
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning only my closest friends knew about the brace but eventually more people knew because I play volleyball, I have to take it off for gym and my friends can't keep their mouths shut about anything. Now I've had it for two years and I think my entire grade knows and some people from other grade. Also I don't go up to complete stangers but just some kids in my grade. It is so funny to see their faces. The beat is when you thouoght someone knows but they don't so they do that and they hurt their hand. Best part ever! ~Katelyn
